Our Guide To Using Ladders On Stairs

Last modified date

A lot of us will have encountered this situation. Maybe you need to change a lightbulb, or perhaps there’s a picture that you need to hang high up, or there’s a window that needs fixing/ cleaning and the only way you can get to it is using a ladder. Sounds simple enough but then you realise that you need to use ladders on stairs.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. In fact, here at Manutan, we want to help. You’re not the first person to need to use a ladder on some stairs and you won’t be the last so fortunately, manufacturers have been able to come up with some pretty great ideas to get around this problem.

Ladders With Stabiliser Bars

The Telescopic Extension Aluminium Ladder comes with a stabiliser bar that prevents the ladders from slipping to the side. This can then be wedged against the step and secured to ensure safe access.

Step Ladders For Stairs

The Little Giant step ladder uses a ‘Quad-Lock’ hinge design to lock into place for increased safety and stability. The ladder is made of robust military-grade aluminium. It has a patented ‘Rock-Lock’ system that lets you use the ladder safely on stairs, and gives you the versatility of a step ladder, extension ladder and a trestle table!

For especially awkward terrain, the Telescopic Little Giant Step Ladder is the ‘next step up’! Again made of military-grade aluminium, this ladder has the ‘Rock-Lock’ system, but adds individual levellers on each foot. With these levellers, you can stand this ladder on uneven surfaces such as high curbs etc. with complete assurance. Again, Little Giant ladders offer you multiple configurations, such as trestle tables and extension ladders, all in one!

All-Terrain Work Platforms

If the job needs more than just a ladder, a work platform system might be what you need. The Aluminium Folding Work Platform/Step Ladder System has twin stabilisers and gravity latches, to make it suitable on all surfaces. The full height guard rail will undoubtedly keep you and your tools safe!

Fibreglass All Terrain Work Platforms

Though the Aluminium Folding Work Platform/Step Ladder System suits a diverse range of tasks, it is not insulated against electricity. In areas where electricity is a hazard, you might want to consider the Fibreglass Folding Work Platform/Step Ladder System. It has all the same benefits as the aluminium counterpart, but the fibreglass frame is insulated for up to 30,000 volts.

Using Ladders on Stairs

If you need to access something above a set of stairs you don’t need to worry. Though it can be awkward, there are plenty of options that you can take to ensure that you can complete your work safely and easily.
